About Us

Tommy Laws was born in 1985 and suffers from a degenerative, muscle wasting disease called Charcot-Mary-Tooth disease. He has been physically disabled from an early age and his condition is progressive, which means it will continue to reduce his strength and mobility over time.

In 2016, after many years of asking, doctors agreed to remove both of Tommy's legs below the knee. This is to give Tommy's precious years of being mobile, with the aid of prosthetic limbs, He hopes among other things to be able to run, swim and walk unaided.

Tommy is unable to work due to ongoing pain and symptoms caused by his condition. Social care and disability funding is being cut every year and only the very basic items are provided, including one pair of standard 'NHS issue' legs.

Tommy's Wheels has been set up to help Tommy with the things that will keep him moving. Our initial fundraising hopes to contribute towards the following:

Running blades, Swimming legs, a carbon fibre wheelchair and a mobility scooter for the times he cannot wear prosthetic limbs..

Who We Are

The charity has been set up in 2016, led by Katherine Millen, inspired by Tommy's story and aspirations. Other friends (and now trustees) have been roped in including Ian Carter and Sammy Riley, also from Buckden in Cambridgeshire.
